The principal goal of the project is to safeguard the main features of the lifestyle and oral expressions of the Bedu that have developed over the course of millennia and that are being lost due to inevitable societal changes.
The knowledge, wisdom and history that is at risk forms the historical foundation of all Arab people's. BHP's first project's scope is to safeguard the main features of the lifestyle and oral history of the Bedu that have developed in Wadi Rum region in Jordan. The people of Wadi Rum have been recognised for their uniqueness by UNESCO and are the only Arab culture admitted to the permanent list of Intangible World Heritages.
As part of the first phase of fieldwork in Wadi Rum, the Bedouin Heritage Project has amassed a media library of over 12,000 photos, 25 hours of video and numerous audio recordings. These form the foundation of a Cultural Inventory and are expected to grow significantly over the course of this project. Proceeds from image licensing and print sales fund the ongoing work of BHP.
The Library is open to the public for viewing and in many cases videos and slide shows can be embedded into 3rd party websites to promote the work of BHP, create greater awareness of the Bedu Culture and provide interesting, dynamic content for publishers.
All work is available for licensing by publishers, producers and editors for guidebook, commercial video, entertainment or royalty free stock use. Money raised from licensing helps support the work of BHP and may be tax deductible for the purchaser. For more information on licensing contact abouzeid@bedouinheritage.org.
